Interview

  • How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or you are more of a homebody?
I am a gypsy. I travel for work all the time- touring, performing and teaching all the time. If I stay in one place for too long I get restless. I love it. I love exploring the undiscovered side of a new city, meeting the people there and enjoying what is new and different.
  • What kind of diet and fitness regiment do you follow?
Haha. I'm naturally lazy. I am always impressed by people who can make themselves go to the gym after a day at the office. I am a dancer, so eight hours of rehearsals a day keeps me fit, otherwise it just wouldn't happen! Lots of jumps keep my legs and ass strong, lifting other dancers keeps my upper body in shape and you use yours abs all the time. Outside of rehearsals, I try to keep my exercise regime varied and interesting, so that I stay excited. At the moment I am working on handstands and rings from gymnastics. Oh, and lots and lots of stretching keeps me limber.
  • If you and I were on the beach having some wine and great food, what would you tell me about yourself.
I would tell you that I come from a very homophobic, religious family in a small country town. That having the opportunity to move to the city, to study at university, to become an artist and to come out of the closet allowed me to become a strong independent man, and I'm really proud of that. I still love my family, even if we don't agree on everything.
  • What do you enjoy most about yourself?
My ability to talk with anyone. I find people and their different stories interesting and I like those 'instant friendships that can develop between strangers. Plus it always helps pass the time on a long flight!
  • Name 5 things that you can’t live without.
    1. Good Coffee. I don't think most people realise how obsessed Australians are with coffee. When I moved to Frankfurt, I must have dedicated at least three days to just traversing the city finding 'my coffee shop'.

    2. My foam roller. After working out I massage myself out by rolling on it for 15 mins.

    3. My group of close friends. We all travel a lot, but we make an effort to be together. They support and encourage me and keep me sane.

    4. A book. A the moment I'm reading Jean Genet's QUERELLE

    5. Amazing Sex. I think everyone needs sex, but maybe in different amounts. I need it a lot and regularly. Without it I'm moody and unproductive
